The following is a sample announcement for the CASE grant program. Items in ALL CAPS should be read with the names of the HOST, OFFICERS, LOCATIONS, etc., and the DATES of the program, DEADLINES, etc.

The STATE (or HOST) Community Academic-Service Entrepreneur Grant

Summary. The HOST has been selected to present a grant from the Campus Community Partnership Foundation to a student who's application indicates the most entrepreneurial and innovative use of the grant for a community service project addressing a social need.. Applicants and their community partners must meet the minimum requirements listed below. A winner will be chosen based on the selection criteria listed below. Applicants are encouraged to work with their community partner to leverage this grant with additional contributions from other sources or additional participation by students, faculty and community residents or others. The grant will be presented by HOST OFFICER NAME at the EVENT on DATE at the PLACE.

  1. Benefits for students. In addition to the monetary prize, the winners' project report will be published on the Foundation's website called, www.servicebook.org Applicants who meet the requirements and the selection criteria will be awarded certificates as a program finalist and as a "Carter Academic-Service Entrepreneur" from the Foundation.
  2. Sponsors. Campus Community Partnership Foundation recognizes the best academic-service learning work of university students and faculty as they partner with community groups and community agencies and student social entrepreneurship. Recognition comes to winners of the Partnership Award or the Community Academic-Service Entrepreneur grant. Hundreds of applicant organizations have received recognition through the Partnership Award and Grants. They have attracted more participants, attracted more funding and made learning exciting for the students while making a difference to the lives of others. By applying similar uniform and high standards to the Award and Grant selection, the programs not only recognize the best models, but inspire others to excel and achieve the status of a C2P Certified Program.
  3. Minimum requirements to qualify as an applicant. To be accepted for consideration, applications MUST satisfy the following:
    1. The applicant must be a full or part-time student in good academic standing, provide a letter from a faculty member who is willing to oversee the proposed project and agree to provide a report of the project, as described below. Seniors are eligible if the funds will be used before the beginning of the next semester.
    2. Have worked for at least one semester with the community partner with which the proposed project will be carried out. This partner must be identified in the application, must have been established for at least two years prior to the application and must supply a letter indicating agreement with the proposed participation by the student applicant.
  4. Selection Criteria to choose the grantee and to confer certification. Among qualified applications, a selection panel will choose a grant winner based upon the degree to which the proposed use of the funds is likely to produce or enhance the following:

    IMPACT

    • Impact on the community through increased economic opportunity, improved social or civic networks, more responsive public systems, etc.
    • Documentation of measurable outcomes.
    • The promise of sustainability for the proposed idea after the grant funding is exhausted.

    PARTNERSHIP

    • Identification of the community partner's strengths and efforts to build upon and enhance these strengths.
    • Collaborative and data-informed planning and decision making between the student and the community partner with regard to the project.
    • Efforts to enlist other collaborators like businesses, civic organizations, government agencies, faith-based institutions, etc.

    ACADEMIC-SERVICE LEARNING

    • Integration of the project with a student's coursework, practicum, thesis, dissertation, etc.
    • An optimal blend of learning, research and service for the applicant.
  5. The student's project report should include the following elements:
    • A general report on the activities undertaken by the project
    • An assessment of the degree to which specific project aims were accomplished
    • An assessment of the degree to which general program criteria were met
    • An explanation of what the student learned about service leadership and about academic-service entrepreneurship
    • Recommendations for further development of the specific proposed idea in the future
    • Recommendations for related general or specific ideas that could be developed in the future
    • Recommendations for enhanced collaboration between the community partner and the affiliated institution of the student in the future
    • An accounting for project funds
