The Foundation
The foundation was established to promote the best examples of service learning partnership programs in universities and colleges that benefit the community and the students. An award was created to showcase the best practice models of collaboration between a university and community, followed by the establishment of a grant program for student social entrepreneurship in which students engage in community service projects linked to their academic discipline. The foundation also has an employee recognition program for socially responsible workers in an organization.
The inspiration for the foundation is derived from President, Jimmy Carter and Mrs. Carter's lifetime of service to the communities around the world. To reduce the gap between the rich and the poor which is steadily rising, President Carter has often said that higher education should reach out and serve the communities in which they exist. The foundation encourages schools to provide their students experience in community service projects so that they acquire skills and knowledge needed for social responsibility, to become better workers/employees and better citizens.
